Translation Welsh to English Please help!
« on: Tuesday 27 July 21 05:44 BST (UK) »
Hi!

I have the attached obituary from a Welsh language newspaper in Ohio.

I can understand much of it but the details are important to me.. Please help!

Here is my attempt, but I really would like an accurate translation!

Obituary Gwenllian Bains
Columbus Ohio
In memory of Gwenllian Bains born 1801 in the village of Defynog, county of Frycheiniog (Breconshire). Her father was  David Williams of that place and her mother was Ann Powell, Penyfai, of the town of  Drecastell (Trecastle).  Born and raised on a farm called Cwmwysg and later at a new shop in the Village of Defynog. The family later moved to Felin Aberbran and to a new shop in Aberhonddu (Brecon). Mr Williams had 13 children, 11 sons  and 2 daughters.  She is survived by only three of them, Ebenezer, Benjamin, and Thomas.
(I can’t translate any of the last line, except for Radnor Ohio)

Any help will be appreciated!
Thanks!

Llanfi

translate.google.com makes it: The last two live in Radnor, Ohio.

Unless/until a real Welsh speaker comes along (which isn't me), try typing the whole thing into it and see how it matches your own translation.
Researching Penge, Anerley, (incuding the Crystal Palace) and neighbouring parts of Beckenham, currently in London (Bromley), formerly Surrey and/or Kent.

Some  tweaks and additions

Gwenllian Bains was born in the year 1801 in the village of Defynog, Breconshire. Her father was  David Williams and her mother was Ann Powell, Penyfai, near Trecastle. Her parents lived for years at Cwmwysg Farm and kept the new shop in the village of Defynog at the same time. After some years the family moved to Felin Aberbran [Aberbran Mill] close to Brecon town and kept a store there until they came to this country.  Mr Williams and his wife had 13 children, 11 sons  and 2 daughters., of whom only three of them, Ebenezer, Benjamin, and Thomas, now live. The last two live in  Radnor, Ohio

In the memory of Gwenllian Bains,
Columbus, Ohio.

Gwenlian Bains was born in the year 1801 in Defynog village, Frycheiniog  [Brecon].

The name of her father was David Wiliams and the name of her mother Ann Powell, Penyfai, near to Trecastell.

Her parents lived for years on Cwmwysg farm and running the new shop [or newsagents] in Defynog village at the same time.

After some years the family moved from Defynog to Felin Aberbran near to the town of Aberhonddu and kept a store up-town since their arrival to this land.

Mr Williams and his wife had 13 children, 11 boys and 2 girls, but only three living now, Ebenezer, Benjamin and Thomas. The last two live in Radnor, Ohio.
