James Thompson
« on: Wednesday 28 July 21 07:33 BST (UK) »
Hi,

Just wandered if anyone can confirm some information I have about James Thompson. His parents were John Thompson, (born in about 1848 in Hull, Yorkshire), and Emma Martin Hetherington, (birth registered Q3 1853 in Carlisle, Cumbria, England).  His birth was registered in Q1 1881 in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Northumberland.

I am trying to confirm that he is the widowed James Thompson who, in 1939, is living in Tynemouth Rd, Newcastle. The DOB of that James Thompson is recorded as 27/12/1880. Via the registration of death in 1972, his DOB is recorded as 29/12/1880.   In the 1881 census James is recorded as being aged 3 months, which would be correct.

I have traced the Thompson family up to and including the 1901 census but then, after that, lose track of them. The only sibling of James that I can trace after 1901 is sister Emma Martin Thompson who married John Edward Courtney in 1910 and then John James Tweedy in 1919.

Any help would be gratefully received.

Kind regards,

Coreen

Not what you asked for but here's John William THOMPSON:

UK, Army Registers of Soldiers' Effects, 1901-1929 (Ancestry)
John Willam Thompson

Death Date:   16 Apr 1917
Death Place:   France
Rank:   Private
Regiment:   Northumberland Fusiliers
Regimental Number:   266228

Says his sister Emma M Courtney is his sole legatee.

On the CWGC site his age seems to be "off"-parents listed as John William and Emma.

http://www.marriage-locator.co.uk/cgi-bin/ML_search.cgi?year=1910&qtr=3&vol=10b&page=98&search=search

Marriage Locator indicates the 1910 marriage (Emma) was at All Saints, Newcastle upon Tyne

http://www.marriage-locator.co.uk/cgi-bin/ML_search.cgi?year=1871&qtr=4&vol=10a&page=295&search=search

Marriage Locator indicates marriage was between two places for a John Thompson  and Emma Hetherington in 1871.

Thanks for that information. I've not used the marriage locator before but will certainly be doing so from now on.
