Martin James Blake
« on: Wednesday 28 July 21 17:02 BST (UK) »
Hi everyone I am trying to find out more information on my uncle Martin Blake. What I do know is he was born in Belfast in 1906 at 48 Jocelyn Avenue. His father my grandad was in the Royal Irish Constabulary Michael Blake. He was posted with his family to Kerry where the remainder of his children were born apart from one other who was also born in Belfast. In 1922 my grandad was disbanded and he and the family went to live in England. At sometime I dont know when he returned to live in Belfast. In the 1950s my Uncle Martin would make the odd visit to Belfast and sometime in the 50s he died in England. All I know is he was married with a family whose names I have no idea and that he had something to do with working on the railways possibly as a train driver?? I would love to know more about his family if at all possible. Many thanks Gerry

According to my grandads pension record, the family settled in 47 The Avenue Ramsey Huntingdone. My grandad was born in Kilbaha Martins father on the 2/09/1871 Co Clare. The information already here is amazing I didn’t have any knowledge about Martin apart from his occasional visit to Belfast when I was very young and the odd conversation about him from my mum to her sister. They all had come though some very traumatic times in Ireland which they talked about. I have no idea when they returned to Belfast from England apart from a sheet of paper regarding pension payments to my grandad. I am more than fascinated now about Martins children and if there are any survivors?? Thank you for all the information so far and yes I do recall the name Ipswich mentioned by my mum.

All Martin's children married so some family must be around somewhere but
were not allowed to name living children.

I fully understand that but what I have been told today is just amazing so can’t thank everyone enough for all your help so far. Is it possible to find out how long my grandad and his family stayed in England from the address I have given?

He's not on the Electoral Rolls in Cambs. where Ramsey is.
It's possible because of his job he might not have wanted
his name in the public domain.

I never thought of that. He had survived several ambushes Dunmanway Killorglin and at his home where Martin managed to escape from their house to summon help from the police barracks. Apparently had a rough time and never went back to the family farm in Kilbaha Co Clare.
