John Edgar or Edgar John ( he used both!) had potentially 3 wives:

Emily Mary JONES

Clara

Mary HARWOOD/AMOS/JEWELL/BARNES.

The only known marriage register is for Emily.

Allen was the maiden name of John Edgar's mother.

Her baptism which is on Ancestry gives her name as Caroline Allen. As does her later marriage.

I have been looking into what became of Caroline and Selina and needed to get some proof to confirm my theory, now I have it.

The 1911 Marriage of Bert & Caroline didn't last very long and Caroline set up home with William Francis Johnson. This is the sequence of events from that point.
1915 Pontypridd    Birth of William Francis Johnson mmn Jewell
1918 Pontypridd    Birth of Selina Highley mmn Jewell
1918 Pontypridd    Birth of Selina Irene Johnson mmn Jewell
I ordered the pdf's for both Selina births as I thought they might be the same person and they are.

Wow! You have been busy. Sending for the PDFs goes well beyond what can be expected.

I am very grateful for these insights. They simply changed their names, no wonder I couldn't find them.

Presumably Caroline died as a Johnson, possibly in Somerset.

Once again many thanks. Your skills clearly surpass mine. I'm impressed.

I've really enjoyed the searching and this was an interesting quest. At the moment I don't have any mysteries that can be solved by a couple of pdf's. Ordered Monday and arrived Wednesday, great service.

Indeed, very quick service. I ordered the PDF for Bert, though this wasn't so helpful. He died 27 Apr 1903 at 4 Marsh Villas, High Street, Newbridge, Abercarn, aged 57. He was then a labourer in a tinplate works. He died of pneumonia following a fractured rib received from a fall in a bedroom! There was an inquest (28 April 1933), but no PM. All of which was interesting, but of little help in finding his wife and daughter.

Glad you enjoyed the chase.

I have another one in preparation, once I can sort it sufficiently to make a coherent post. Once again it involves a wife leaving her husband and children, to live with someone else! Seems to have happened a lot in my family!
