Based on their ages and place from census …

I think this is likely to be burial of Evan Thomas in 1860

I think this could be burial for his first wife, Mary Ann in 1850

I’m just in awe at all this detective work, seriously!

Wow, thank you!
So am I right in thinking that Evan’s wife Mary Thomas was also going by the name Margaret, and sometimes even Martha!? It *appears* to be the same person.. was she having a laugh?! 😀

I might be getting confused, but I think the Margaret/Mary is Catherine's mother ie DAVIES (nee JONES).

it’s not you getting confused, but me..you’re right! My head’s spinning too fast right now 😬

I am starting to think about a second marriage for Evan THOMAS to a person named Martha.

I think it is a little bit odd that John died at Ballarat, same place as his brother the Rev Wm THOMAS lived and worked as a minister.

It seems highly possible that William assisted with the information entered on John's Death Certificate.
The matters of family were obviously important to him in many respects.

At his own marriage, only 12 years prior, he new his mother's name and her maiden name correctly.

At his brother's death the name stated is Martha, maiden name is apparently not known..
If it was , it would be on the index entry.

Only thoughts .....but.
Sue

Sue, you nailed it with your hunch then! 😀

obituary which confirms the burial of Evan Thomas 31 Dec 1860 and mentions he is the father of the Rev. William Thomas.

This could be a report of William getting his M.A. - last paragraph on the page

Excellent finds Osprey.
I must study up on my Welsh. In the obit, I could understand the words “Mr. Evan Thomas, plasterer”, but nothing else. :D

Dave Thomas, Do you know in what year and on what ship William arrived in Oz?

Has anyone looked to see if the other brother David also came to Australia?

William came over in 1866, but don’t know on which ship.
