Scales family in Limehouse 1838
« on: Sunday 01 August 21 14:03 BST (UK) »
Hi everyone

I’m looking for any details about Lucy Scales. I have a newspaper report that she lived in Week’s Place in Limehouse in 1838 when she was about eighteen years old and she had a sister. I can’t find Lucy on the 1841 census (although I’m only using a free search to see if I can find her). Perhaps she married between her appearance in 1838 and the census date? Also Week’s Place – I’ve scoured maps of Limehouse and can’t find it (it might be too small to warrant a mention). Does anyone know where it’s near? I would be interested to find anything about Lucy and her family

Her brother is named as a butcher in Narrow Street Limehouse, although no name is given - just "her brother, a respectable butcher". I would like to know his address and about his family.

Many thanks in advance for your help.
Best wishes
Jon

Thank you for your message; I've updated the original. Lucy Scales is named as a victim of an assault at the end of February 1838. Her brother is named as a "respectable butcher in Narrow Street".

Many thanks
Jon

The 1839 Pigot's Directory of London notes a William Scales, butcher, Nightingale Lane, Limehouse.  There is another entry for Michael Scales and Son, butchers and meat salesmen, 44 Aldgate High Street.
