You say you have all the information re later life, that is why I asked re the father’s details on the marriage certificate?

In the original post, does ‘her father was illegitimate’ refer to the person who is having the research done?

I am finding the Dilkes very difficult to research. What is Eliza’s maiden name?

The problem for me with the 1901 Dorothy is that the census states that she was born in Hackney; whilst the Dorothy Ellen Jelley Davies mentioned before was born in Pancras. There was a Dorothy May Davies born in Hackney in q2 of 1893, mmn Watkins, so I'm not too sure about this.

Other births listed with mmn Guinner:

Lucy SEARLE, 1883, Chertsey

Margaret Norah Agnes LANE, 1888, Medway  (this may be the daughter of Anna Maria Guinner who married in Kensington in 1886).

There is a tree with Margaret's family on Ancestry; this shows them in Pancras in 1901, but still with the Lane surname (shame!) so that would seem to rule out this one.

1901 1209/103/57
There is William Davies 9 yrs born St Pancras and Emily Davies 10 yrs born St Pancras  both boarders with William Saunders and other people.

In 1911 William Davies and Emily Margaret are boarding with a White family.

Birth for Emily  Marguerite Davies has mmn Swinney.

Added
I doubt this is William Joseph with mmn Guinnse. The one above is possibly William James.
