Although there is no birth record on Scotlands People for Robert (b circa 1816), there are 2 records for a James McNair 1810 & a Peter McNair 1812 with parents Walter McNair & Agnes Taylor. Both births in Alloa. High probability that they are Robert's parents.

There are also records for a William McNair 1804, a Lillias McNair 1807, a Jane McNair 1814 & a Jean McNair 1821 with the same parents in Alloa

Have not managed to find them on the 1841 census will keep looking

There is this tree on familysearch which goes back much farther on the Snaddon line but does not shed any more light on Robert McNair's parents.
