Burial/death records 1900
« on: Wednesday 04 August 21 03:08 BST (UK) »
Hi
I am searching for my 2 x great grandmother Hannah McLane burial/death records. Hannah died 27th May 1900 at St Joseph's Home, run by Little Sisters of the Poor and was buried at St Dominic's Church in Byker. This information I have recieved from St Joseph's, but I have searched on Family Search, Find My Past and Ancestry with no luck. I have also done a search on the England and Wales General Register Office with nothing. How can I search for her?

Hi
Thanks for your quick response!
I have conflicting dates of birth, some 1819 some 1821, so somewhere between 81 and 79. There could be some difference because of the age given by family, but her year of birth was given to me as 1819 by St Joseph's House where she died.
Its probably a bit young....
Karen.

The age of death at registration was only as accurate as the knowledge of the informant, there would have been no birth certificate to prove her age.  The only way of confirming whether that is the correct certificate is to purchase it.

As that death reference fits in all but the age, it would be best to purchase it to check.
It is the only one and the age given depends on the knowledge of the person reporting it.

You could also try applying here using the information you have. You still have to pay though on application.

Does the age of 76 fit?

In 1881 a Hannah McLane, born Ireland, age 58, was living with John McLane, 58, born Ireland,  in Longbenton, Northumberland. It seems likely this is the registration of her death.
Also present , son, John, born Ireland 1856

Does any of that fit?

https://www.newcastle.gov.uk/services/libraries-culture/history-and-heritage/online-heritage-enquiries.
It is currently a free service - usually £30.

If you fill out the form on this link Newcastle Local Studies staff will be able to find the burial entry for you at Jesmond Cemetery.  This will likely provide section and plot.
Note: St Dominic's will be where the Roman Catholic burial service was rather than where she was buried.
