Both children born before 1911 are registered in No1 East, North Dublin so it's more than likely he was a harbour master's assistant/berthing master at Dublin docks.

Mary 1906 (as O Hanlon).

Gerald James 1908 correctly as Hanlon (but transcribed as Halon).

Researching: Cuthbertson – Co. Derry, Scotland & Australia; Hunter – Co. Derry; Jackson – Co. Derry, Scotland & Canada; Scott – Co. Derry; Neilly – Co. Antrim & USA; McCurdy – Co. Antrim; Nixon – Co. Cavan, Co. Donegal, Canada & USA; Ryan & Noble – Co. Sligo

Yes I found those entries, im presuming the O was added due to other relatives living in close proximity, or the possibility that there may have been a family rift of some sort, or the likelihood that it was an error when registering births etc that went unnoticed for a period of time.
