Thanks for your messages Carole. Yes I have the census for 1861-1901 which all shows his birth place as Dundee. His age changes drastically in some census years eg 31 in 1861, 40 in 1871, 54 in 1881, 55 in 1891, 69 in 1901!
I understand Andrew's father was from Abernethy and that Andrew was probably born there though on each census he quotes Dundee.  Without Andrew's birth record we can't be 100% but our theory is that Andrew brought his wife to Dundee to work probably around 1865 for work purposes.

You have the correct brothers of Andrew there ie James 1819 & David 1820. Then came Andrew and then John (1836).

I am intrigued about "1841 census has an Andrew Macomber aged 15 working as an agricultural labourer in Abernethy Perth but not with parents"
This would fit with him being born in 1826 as my colleague believes he was.

In 1841 - ages from 16yrs upwards were rounded down to the nearest 5yrs.  If he was born 1830 - he would only have been 11 in 1841 so no rounding would apply.

If he was b 1822-1825 he would be recorded as 15yrs old

Did you mention that you have viewed the 1855 birth cert?

An example of an 1855 cert here www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/sites/default/files/pictures/records-statutoryregisters-marriages-example-1855-fullsize.jpg

The first year of official registration, place of birth was normally also included on the registers for that year only.

Were his parents showing as alive or deceased when Andrew married? What was his father's occupation?

Monica

Added: On a/try, there is an Andrew MA Combie (as transcribed on the index), born in Dundee c. 1829. He is working as a farm labourer and shows at Huntingtower Bothy, Tibbermore Perthshire.

Hi Monica, Andrew's parents aren't stated as deceased on the wedding cert and unfortunately, there is no profession shown for his father John McCommie. Andrew states he is 26 and born in Dundee. I'm struggling to find that Andrew MA Combie entry on ancestry - did you enter MA as middle initials?
I will keep looking for that and Andrew's birth record - many thanks.

Carole, thank you for clarifying.

To find this Andrew's 1851 entry on a/try, just put Andrew Comie b. 1829 Dundee and it will show his entry in Tibbermore.
