Assistance needed..Elizabeth Kelly born Castlereagh 1927
« on: Thursday 05 August 21 04:56 BST (UK) »
I am hoping it is okay to post on here. I am trying to track down the names of a person's parents and/or siblings.

The name is Elizabeth Kelly. Elizabeth was born in 1927 in Castlereagh, County Roscommon, Ireland. Elizabeth migrated to Australia and married in 1951. At the time of her marriage, a newspaper article was printed citing the names of her parents as "Mrs C Kelly" and "the late Mr M Kelly". I will try to attach a copy of of the newspaper article to this post.

I was able to find a birth in the Irish Civil Registration Indexes 1845-1958 at the link below.
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:F1S1-PM3?cid=fs_copy

I am unable to progress any further without the names of Elizabeth's parents. I am hoping there might be some sort of church indexes or something of the sort that can assist me with this.

Births and baptisms in Ireland in the past 100 years are not on-line. You can order a research copy (photocopy) of the birth certificate from GRO Roscommon for €5 (euros). https://www.welfare.ie/en/Pages/Apply-for-Certificates.aspx

You can e-mail your order to them and they will e-mail the certificate back to you.

Here’s a marriage for a Michael Kelly & Catherine Masterson, so the initials fit but you would really need to get the birth certificate to be sure you have the right family.

I suggest that you firstly purchase the marraige certificate which will name both of her parents and is information given by her first hand.

Many thanks, however as Elizabeth and Charles's marriage was in 1951, it is unavailable to be purchased as a historical certificate in Western Australia.

I suggest that you firstly purchase the marraige certificate which will name both of her parents and is information given by her first hand.

Thank you! This is exactly what I have been looking for! I was hoping the mother might be a Masterson as it's what fits with the other DNA matches.

If you do have the right marriage certificate of 1921, as found by Elwyn then you might be interested in the residences of Michael Kelly and Catherine Masterson. Catherine lived in Castlerea, while Michael lived in the townland of Arm on the outskirts of the town.

To put all into context, I am working with an adoptee to identify their birth father. They have quite a number of matches that all link back to common ancestors Patrick Masterson and Ellen Loftus. We have not been able to work out how these matches are connnected to them however.

More recently they had a new match pop up, we worked out that there was really only one possibility for a relationship after looking at the match, their ages, close immediate family and locations. Elizabeth Kelly was identified as the potential link to the other matches but given her age, I have been unable to find her on Census or any other conventional means. She only passed away recently, so we are unable to purchase her death certificate and similarly we are unable to purchase her marriage certificate here in Australia. All I have to go on is the information I have gathered on other family members and the newspaper article attached to this post. I was fairly certain that Elizabeth's mother was a Masterson but I have been trying to find some sort of definitive evidence that would support this.

I am 99% certain that we have the right information now and as such have found the missing link that connects these DNA matches. We will be attempting to purchase Elizabeth's birth information as suggested above to confirm, however the marriage posted by Elwyn Soutter is the breakthrough we needed. Thank you.
