Where did they marry?
Does the marriage certificate give you any information as to his parents?

Parents:

John Oliver SMITH and Florence Annie EAGER, apologies, I did mean to add them, all it says for their marriage is Victoria.

I cannot see a SMITH/WARE marriage though.

Where is your information about that from?

Added…oh, it’s a war marriage.?

Marriages Jun 1917   (>99%)

Smith    John H    Ware    Hastings    2b   93
Ware    Annie    Smith    Hastings    2b   93

Can that be right?  He would have to be 18 to enlist.  So 1916 and then train and be over there with time to meet someone  and marry them in the 1917 June quarter?

Can you please detail the track back to this couple.  I cannot see at first sight his WW1 record, although I am unfamiliar with the indexes so may not be searching as one should.

What does it say about wife on death cert?

Changed his name to John William Smith?.

Thank you, mckha489 for the info, the lady I am helping knows nothing about John SMITH, she was always led to believe his middle name was William, his daughter is trying to find anything in regard to him, I haven't had much luck in my research, she asked me to find anything on his younger days, I have tried Trove but to no avail......will try another search.

Thank you again

Cienna

Thank you JM, I don't think the lady I am helping is aware John married again, he walked away one day and they never heard from him again.....

Will continue to research him to see if I can find anything.

Thank you again

Cienna.

May I presume that the person you are helping was born in Australia.

If born in Victoria, or New South Wales, or Queensland or Western Australia, then their own birth certificate should give quality information about their parents.

I was born in NSW, and my birth cert includes the following about my parents:
when and where married (date and place)
their full names (including all their middle names, and mum's maiden name)
their ages (when I was born)
their occupations (when I was born, including the full name of Dad's employer, not just his professional occupation)
their home address (when I was born)
where I was born (hospital), the doctor's name, and the names of two midwifes.
plus the names and ages of my older siblings....

I understand that Victoria's bdm birth certs have far more depth of detail than NSW, and that Qld and WA have about the same as NSW.   ALL have restricted access for members of the general public, but living people who can provide proof of identity IF NAMED on the document can generally purchase the certificate.

So if the person you are helping has good contact with their youngest sibling, then have you asked them to check their own birth certificate to compare ....
