Any ideas what this "Medal " might be?
« on: Sunday 08 August 21 15:49 BST (UK) »
Found with my late father in laws WW2 medals. I don t think it is actually a medal, I don t have access to it as they are photos from a family member. He says they are not heavy enough to be gold unfortunately! I would have thought it was old though.
Lots of similar images on google but not exactly the same. It most looks like an old French 5 cent, but no date or numbers. Napoleon 111 Empereur.
Ideas welcome as to condition as I don t think it looks well made enough, perhaps a reproduction .
Thanks
Cathy

It looks like  - Medal of Napoleon III: Exposition Universelle of 1855

https://www.metmuseum.org/art/collection/search/209324

Most of his medals and coins show him facing the other direction - there were only about 4 of him facing to the right.

Further to above.

If it is a genuine Exposition Universelle, in good condition - one sold recently for €110.

It's a strange one. No engraved monetary value, and the writing on the reverse comes quite far down, ie, the "s" is positioned at the "4 o'clock". All of the others i have seen so far on the web, immaterial of face value, (of which there are several) the "s" is situated between half past 2 and 3 o'clock.

Yes, very strange, will try to see it for myself sometime and maybe get a better "feel" of it, not even sure how big it is at the moment,  I m inclined to believe its some sort of reproduction of something but strange it has a ribbon.
Thanks everyone for your ideas.
