Yewtree farm bidston and royden / simcock family
« on: Sunday 08 August 21 20:27 BST (UK) »
Hi
Looking for any info on yewtree farm  bidston and the royden family who lived there.( 1800s to 1900s) My great great grandfather was george royden Think he was married to Elizabeth simcock.  His daughter was Hannah Royden my great grandmother who lived there also. I also had an great aunt May Clarkson who spent her childhood there as Hannah had many children and I gather found it hard to manage. Therefore May was brought up by Elizabeth in her later years.
. I have quite alot of info on family from ancestrry- and we have an old album.( linked to royden family bible.) Would like more info around the farm and anything else that might be of interest. Many Thanks. Karen

You have posted on the Beginners board & haven't given any details of which county is involved.  Is it Cheshire?

Exactly what kind of info are you looking for?  What censuses are they shown on with that address

1861 census has George Royden b 1821 - wife is Mary not Elizabeth.  He was a farmer but no farm name - just Bidston Village

1881 - no farm name - just Road (opp church)

DEATHS
ROYDEN – Dec. 30, in her 81st year. MARY JANE, last surviving daughter of the late George Royden of Yew Tree Farm, Bidston.  Internment at Bidston Church tomorrow (Thursday) at 12 o’clock.
Liverpool Echo 1 January 1941 page 5

Several other articles 1880s - 1890s refer to George Royden, Church Warden at Bidston

There are a few mentions of George ROYDEN of Bidston in newspapers - awards for horses in agricultural compettitions, as church warden (1865-8), elected Waywarden (1876); and a J ROYDEN as church warden of Bidston. Happy to copy the items if you haven't seen them.

Also a mention of a George ROYDEN as witness in a gruesome murder in 1852. Says he was a farmer at Prenton, which I think is just 3 miles from Bidston, so I assume the same chap?

There is a Yewtree Villa on this 1872 map - Prenton Lane, in between Tranmere and Prenton. Is this the farm? (Can't see a Yewtree Farm around Bidston itself.)
https://maps.nls.uk/view/102340990

Of possible interest then, there is also a newspaper report of the death of Joseph ROYDEN (19), son of Joseph ROYDEN, farmer of Prenton Lane, in 1885. Can copy if you'd like.

what year was Hannah born ?   she is not on the 1861 census - which tells us George was born in Caldy

George Royden was a man born in 1821 in Caldy Cheshire. During the 1861 UK Census he was 40 years old and lived in Cheshire. He appears as the head of his house in the 1861 UK Census.
LAST NAME:   Royden
FIRST NAME:   George
MIDDLE NAME:

BIRTH PLACE:   Caldy Cheshire

as George was born Caldy - do you want us to research Caldy Roydens ?

added
I presume this is Georges Uncle - born Caldy
