Help finding the correct Imms Ancestor
« on: Monday 09 August 21 11:03 BST (UK) »
I am researching the Imms family and am struggling to find the correct line for my great grandfather Edward Edwin Imms b: 1845 d: 1903 (London/Northampton) and in doing so have come up with a marriage certificate which states his father was James Frederick Imms and on the birth certificate, William Imms.  How can I ensure I have the correct information/am following the correct line?

Did your Edward have a wife and daughter called Julia? Was Edward a currier later leather merchant?

If you have the birth cert. you know the mother's maiden name - the parents wedding should give you the father's name.

Do you mean you have bought this birth certificate

IMMS, EDWARD       HARDEN
GRO Reference: 1845  M Quarter in ST. MARY NEWINGTON  Volume 04  Page 359

And it has father as William while the marriage of Edward has father as a James Frederick - which I can see it does,  As does the late baptism.

Where are they in 1851?
Added…and what is the occupation of William on the birth certificate, and where were they living?

I'm not seeing him prior to 1881 & there doesn't appear to
be any other children with mmn Harden.

Just been looking at this family.
in 1841 there is:
William Imms 25
Caroline Imms 20
+ the 2 children above except the daughter is called Eliza.
Can't see them in 1851 but in in 61/71 she's a widow with
daughter Mary Ann Imms b. 1853 Newington which is why I
was looking at them.

Edward had a brother who called himself James Frederick, married Emma BELLAMY in 1862.  He named his father as William IMMS, a cloth japanner.  I think that Edward either didn't know his father very well/couldn't remember his name, although I suspect that William wasn't his real father.

Did William and Caroline marry?  It looks as though he married as a batchelor in 1845 to Ann ZINCRAFT, around the same time that Edward was born.

In 1841 William was a japanner.
It may be William & Caroline never married.
