Hi,

A saddler would make or repair saddles, he may have purchased the wooden frame for a saddle from a Saddle Tree Maker.

Not sure he would have worked with anyone else.

Can you explain why/how your question came up.

Saddlery is a stand alone trade. The history of the Master Saddlers Guild is on thesaddlers.org. A saddler or harness maker would of course rely on a good supply of leather.

They may have worked in a factory, lots of saddles were required in those days. It's possible it was a large factory where they processed the leather.

Looking at the original post, every brick or stone arch or viaduct was built over a wooden saddle removed when the keystone was in place and the mortar had set.

There were a lot of multi arch viaducts built in the 1800s during construction of the railways, and countless arched bridges.

Working to the instruction of the stone mason is possible

My 3 times great grandfather was a saddler in Donegal, I cant be sure but my possible 4 x great grandfather was also a saddler in Burt Donegal. My 3 times great grandfather had a stone mason for his wedding witness and another mason was present at my 4 x great grandfathers death.

They also happened to be in the same parish as John Humes family. I am just curious if my 3 x great grandfather worked with the Humes. The Humes was also stone masons.  Would masons/labourers
be looking for saddlers.

There doesnt seem to be any more saddlers when my 3 x great grandfather died in 1890.

Example would stone masons ever use horses for work during the 1800s?
