Ballybo/Ballyboe Definition?
« on: Monday 09 August 21 23:39 BST (UK) »
Hello Troops,
in my research i have often come across the terms Ballybo and Ballyboe.
One is a form of land measurement and the other is another district name for the townland of Findrum. Could someone provide me with a bit of background on both terms?

cheers
Jack Gee

Bally = home or townland of....
Bo    Boe  the name of the person.
Yes Bo is Irish for Cow.
My daughters friend called her daughter Bo.
I asked did she know what it meant.  I didn't tell her!

Findrum townland - adjacent to Ballyboe. Is that your place name reference?

What is the context you have for Ballybo as a form of land measurement?

Thank you all for the great input. It again filled  some gaps. To Skoos - Cowtown that was very enlightening.

Thanks again.

cheers
