Hi Everyone
Hoping someone maybe able to search for a Norwich newspaper entry for a Frederick S Lincoln who supposedly died on a railway line aged approx 2 years old. It’s my uncle. He was born Jan Q1 1924. Norwich and died Jan 1926 Norwich.

Does anyone think this info would be on death certificate?
Any help would be much appreciated.

A death certificate will give you the date, place and cause of death.

If it was an accidental death the coroner will have been involved and there would normally be an inquest, and the death certificate would mention that. Bear in mind that although the death was registered in the March quarter of 1926, it might have occurred in late 1925 - and if an inquest had been delayed, it might have been somewhat earlier in the year.

Thanks for your reply. Thought I would see if anyone could search for a newspaper article 1st before I get death certificate. Thinks have a habit of being embellished in my family  I am finding out.
Was told by family that another uncle died in mysterious circumstances and Social Services got involved and put remaining siblings in care. The truth was somewhat different when I got death certificate !!!!!
He died of meningitis and the siblings only went into care as a result of the mother of being hospitalised with mental health issues after losing her son.

Would there have been Coroner involvement in the 1920s?

Would there have been Coroner involvement in the 1920s?

The coronial system dates back to the Magna Carta days. Any unexpected death has to be referred to the coroner who will then decide whether or not an inquest is warranted.

So if your uncle did die in a accident, the coroner would have been informed. Whether or not he involved himself further will have been down to him.

Bear in mind that anyone you ask would almost certainly only be able to give you a second-hand version of what happened, and different branches of the family might have different versions. A death certificate would give you the facts as recorded at the time; a pdf version would cost you £7.
