Brown, Frederick Harrison
« on: Saturday 14 August 21 07:34 BST (UK) »
Frederick Harrison Brown was born 30 Sep 1903 at Withyham Sussex.
He was a Private, Army Dental Corps; serving in Lucknow, India.
On 20 Oct 1927, he married Maude Cassell at the Catholic Cathedral, Lucknow. Their only child, Basil Cecil Frederick Harrison Brown, was born 31 Dec 1927 in Lucknow and was baptised 25 Feb 1928, at All Saints Garrison Church, Lucknow, by the Garrison chaplain.

The family believes he was killed in a motor accident in Lucknow sometime after the baptism of the son in 1928. How soon after the baptism or how long afterwards is unknown.

I do have a reference number, but I do not know what it means: BXA761203. Could that possible be his service number?

I would be most grateful for directions to find the service records of this man, especially of his death.

National Archives have no record, British Library (Asia) has no reference, I cannot find him via Ancestry, Findmypast or FS.

Thank you
David Rathgen

Thank you very much for the Billion Graves reference.
Was his death 30 May 1935, by any chance, reported in the local Sussex newspapers?
He was buried that year at the Brighton cemetery, so was that a newsworthy event to be noticed in the local paper at all?
I should look this up myself, but just today we have been placed into another lockdown and access to my library is now closed.

He would have been buried in India.

Am awaiting a response from MOD

Am also awaiting a response from the management of the Brighton Cemetery.
No mention of his death or burial in Indian archives of British Library (British Library Asian & African Studies Reference Service). Not found in Brighton newspapers nor in the Lucknow English language newspapers held at British Library.

Would you mind if I extend this Post to go to the earliest reference I have at Lindfield, Sussex? That is where his ancestor was born (1851, 1861 Census, couldn't find 1841).
Ancestor was Henry Brown, clogmaker, born Feb 1796, Lindfield Sussex. Would like to find the baptism register entry 1796 which should supply his father's name.
Otherwise he is found (from the Census) in Framfield, Sussex.
Henry Brown married Jane Sandell Q3 1848 at Lewes, Brighton.

Yours gratefully
David
