Marriage Lieut-Col. Francis Thompson to Nancy Scatchard
« on: Sunday 15 August 21 20:40 BST (UK) »
Can anyone help trace a marriage for Lieut-Col Francis Thompson to Nancy Scatchard, and the baptism of their daughter?

Francis was the son of Edward Thompson (1670 - ). His sister Henrietta married Colonel Wolfe, and was mother of General Wolfe, killed in Quebec.

Nancy Scatchard was the daughter of Joseph Scatchard, Vicar of Alne 18 Jan 1692 until his death in 1735.

Nancy and Thomas had one child, a daughter, whose details are unknown.

It is assumed Thomas died before 1747, as Nancy re-married in that year to William Meeke in Tillington, Sussex, and with whom she had three children, all baptised at Wighill.

You probably already know this but.

Alne parish registers are on Family Search, but restricted access (FS amd affiliate libraries)

However the Church Wardens accounts are viewable

Don’t know if it is worth your while sorting through all the bread and wine on the off chance they brought in extra for the vicars daughters wedding.

Of more potential perhaps are these  images which I don’t think are indexed.

There is an entry in the Church Warden's accounts for "Sport at Mr. Scatchard" for 4/- that I found completely by chance, so I will read through some more to see what I can find. I am assuming that Nancy married Thompson at Alne. This might not be the case :(

Birth & Baptism of Nancy at Alne 1710.   So marriage to Francis must be after say 1725

Have found a reference for

Nancy Scalchard and Francis Thompson licence date 16 Oct 1736

Nancy is of Wighill age 23 and Francis of Baildon age 33, intended marriage at Cherry Burton PC. There is a link for the Borthwick Institute for the doc.
