In the 1841 census, the family next door is that of William Lawson and Mary McIntosh who were married in Newton upon Ayr in 1835. In 1851 William is a pilot (ship’s pilot?) and he died on Isle of Man in 1858 from small pox. Might William and Adam be brothers?

GR2, in trying to narrow down death dates for Adam, with son William showing as aged 1 in 1851, Adam's death c.1849-51?

With what you found Neale, William Lawson's birth details are shown as www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XTKN-4ZZ on some family trees. His parents' names of William and Marion would fit well with the names of Adam's children.

I think the afore mentioned William is the son of William Lawson and Marion McCrae, born 1808. They had numerous children including a son named Adam born 1815.

I suspect that William and Adam are brothers, and that we have found the parents, but sadly we have no definite proof.
The father William, died age 81 in 1861 Ayr.

If we have identified the correct family then these are the children of William Lawson and Marion McCrae  who were married 13 Dec 1804 in Newton on Ayr

Agnes Lawson 1805
Jean Lawson 1806
William Lawson 1808
Allan Lawson 1810
Antony Lawson 1812
Adam Lawson 1815
Janet Lawson 1817
Margaret Lawson 1820
James Lawson 1822
David Wright Lawson 1823
John Lawson 1825

Going back another generation – consider the birth of William Lawson in 1780, Newton on Ayr to William Lawson and Jean Wright.
Jean Wright / Lawson died 1817 aged 72 Newton (born abt 1745)

Clark – Faulds – Cuthbertson – Bryson – Wilson: (Ayrshire & Renfrewshire)
Neale – Cater – Kinder - Harrison: (Warwickshire & Queensland)
Roberts - Spry: (Cornwall, Middlesex & Queensland)
Munster: (Schleswig-Holstein & Queensland) and Plate: (Braunschweig, Neubruck & Queensland & New York)

Thank you all so much!!!

I’m wading thru every post and looking into possibilities.

I’m extremely interested to learn about Adam’s seafarer history.

I’ll be back 😁

mags49, the information comes from the merchant seamen records in the National Archives. I have accessed them via another site.

It seems that Adam and William are brothers, as suggested by others. Adam and William both have seaman's tickets issued to them at Ayr on 17th January 1845. This record gives the description of Adam I posted earlier. The same information for William is as follows:

William Lawson, born Ayr 24th June 1808, seaman
height 5ft 7inches
hair grey
eyes blue
complexion brown
no marks
First went to sea as apprentice in 1828
can write
when unemployed resides at Ayr

From four other records, these are dates Adam signed on for voyages on various ships:

As a "boy"

June 1835 - the Mary (of Ayr)
December 1836 - the Mary

As a "seaman"

December 1836 - the Ann
30th July 1838 - the Eliza
17th January 1839 Eliza
June 1839 - the Helen
24th August 1839 - the Gazelle
23rd December 1839 - the Alexander Wise
7th August 1843 - the Pitt
June 1844 - the James Dunlop

It is getting more complicating  :(

I now have three William Lawson families.  Spouses Marion Macrae, Mary Spence and Jane Lawson - Within timescale. All name pattern throughout 🧐🥴
