James Lincoln - cannot find him on the 1881 census
« on: Friday 20 August 21 18:14 BST (UK) »
Hi

Please can I ask if anyone can find James Lincoln baptised 24/10/1847 on the 1881 census in the Purleigh, Essex area.  I believe he died in 1882. His parents were Joseph and Susannah Lincoln. In the
1851, 1861, and 1871 census he is with his Mother Susannah and her partner Thomas Enifer (numerous spellings of Enifer).
Any help very much appreciated.

Thanks for your post. Assuming he never married? Died very young!

Both Susan(nah) Lincoln and Thomas Enifer are in the Maldon Union Workhouse in 1881 but no sign of James.

Thank you for your post. Yes I did know that Thomas Enifer and Susannah ended up in Maldon workhouse and both died there, along with Susannah’s husband Joseph Lincoln. Joseph died there in 1876.

I believe he died in 1882.

Can you be absolutely sure that is him from the information Comberton provided?

If not would it be worth getting the death certificate in case it's a different JL and yours died prior to 1881  :-\

Thanks for your post. No I can’t be sure it is absolutely my James Lincoln, but how will getting the death certificate confirm this. I understand in th3 case of a child when you have the parents name on it but not in the case of an adult.

Yes agree it is a bit of a risk but the informant could still be a relative you can link to your James.

Alternatively we need to find the JL who died in 1882 - even if he wasn't yours - to rule him out.
Easier said than done I admit.

Thanks again. I will start by trying to rule out any other James Lincoln’s. I have done this before on other searches. Do you always get an informant on the birth certificate?
