Brosnan Family
« on: Saturday 21 August 21 01:41 BST (UK) »
I am looking for any information on my 4x great grandfather Patrick Brosnahin. His name appears on his sons Thomas Brosnanhin February 1868 marriage to Ellen Doody (or Dowd). Hiw job is listed as a tailor. Some of the towns they lived and married in were Ballybeg, Molahiffe and Castleisland. Does anyone know anything of Patrick Brosnahin or his family?

For others, here’s the link to the marriage in 1868.

I found my 2x great grandmother Margaret Brosnan baptized August 13th 1876 someone found in currow village in the Parish of Kileentierna which lists parents Tim Brosnan and Maria Doody who i think are Thomas Brosnan and Ellen Dowd. Patrick would be Thomas father but I'm not sure how far the family goes back in that particular village.

The civil birth record has her as Mary and born 12th? August at Ballybeg, Killeentierna.    #402
Parents Thomas Brosnan and Ellen Doody. The informant was Mary Doody.

Yep thats them. I'm just trying to figure out the next step to find Thomas and Ellen's parents whose fathers i know are Patrick and Michael. When I type in the Brosnan surname it all comes up in the same parts of Kerry so I figured there ought to be something else of Patrick Brosnahin other than just appearing on his sons marriage record.

I was always told her full name was Mary Josephine and Molly as a nickname. I haven't heard Margaret but I assumed it was her because I know some of her siblings names were Patrick, Ellen, Johanna and Bridget. Maybe that other person wasn't her and they just had similar names? I've never seen the document you just posted but the names match completely.

Ancestry.com/boards/surnames.brosnan/205 made me think that was her but Maria as the mother came out of nowhere lol.

There is a Michael,Doody marriage here, February 1841 with spouse Maria Coakley. The residence is Ballybeg which is favourable, although not definite.

3 more Brosnan baptisms on the page, Tim 10th September & 23rd Dec., Con January 1877. That's 4 from a total of 40 baptisms. Brosnan sponsors for 6 baptisms. I assume Brosnan was a locally common surname.
