Slow speed does prevent images appearing so it could be that.  I'm not sure about pausing drives.

It would be best to see if Andrewalston has any ideas.

It is usually possible to reclaim more disk space using the "Disk clean up" (under Windows Administrative tools).

When it loads, click on "Clean up system files".

The greatest disk space is likely to come from "Windows Update Clean up" in the list that appears.

There is nothing in that list which can't be recreated, except for the "Downloads" bit (mine has a few things I have not yet moved elsewhere).
Looking at ALSTON in south Ribble area, ALSTEAD and DONBAVAND/DUNBABIN etc. everywhere, HOWCROFT and MARSH in Bolton and Westhoughton, PICKERING in the Whitehaven area.
