Royal Australian Navy. WW1 Ship Identification please.
« on: Wednesday 25 August 21 06:49 BST (UK) »
Hi all,

Can somebody give me help in identifying the name of the Royal Australian Naval ship as listed on the man's record and listed between HMAS Cerberus and HMAS Sydney on the file attached.(see file attached).
The ship in question must have sailed between Australia and the UK between 31.8.1918 and 8.1.1919 as the Able Seaman on board the Cerberus then joined the crew of the Sydney as it headed back to Australia.
There is also evidence of the Able Seaman being on leave in Scotland in February 1919 before returning to Australia on the Sydney.

Thanking you,
John.

Two words I think. The second one is Depôt.

Hi SeanJ and Q 98,
Thanks for your contribution,
I was having a good ferret around on the Internet looking at Home Depot ships from Australia and I have found the "Barambah" as a possible contender for what I am looking for.
Tomorrow, I shall have a good look around to see if there is any evidence to back up my theory.

Many thanks,
John.

Thank you Kloumann and all, I have now sorted out the name of the ship mentioned on his Naval Record.
It was "LONDON DEPOT" (London was shortened to Lond).
The 'London Depot' was the Barambah A37 and was used as a troop carrier by the R.A.N.

Many thanks to all for your help!
