MonicaL, yes, John was Elizabeth's brother.  I have been able to develop quite a bit of information about him and his descendants.  John and Elizabeth's parents are one big blank.  Both were probably born in Ireland, but that's all I know.  Could not find any other info about them - no census records, no death records, zero.
Added later:  John was born in Scotland, probably around 1802.
