Exton?

But if it was father of the groom then isn't the grooms surname the same?
Hinchliffe - Huddersfield Wiltshire
Burroughs - Arlingham Glos
Pick - Frocester Glos

Hi

The grooms surname is different than his Father. It would appear that his mother was unmarried and therefore his birth certificate has been left blank. As you can see I think that's why they use the term 'Reportedly' on the Marriage Record.

Could it be Ensor? Note that 'n' in 'John', 'Painter' and 'Banns' looks more like a 'u', as here.

(The word below is 'Reputed', not 'Reportedly'.)
Researching among others:
Bartle, Bilton, Bingley, Campbell, Craven, Emmott, Harcourt, Hirst, Kellet(t), Kennedy,
Meaburn, Mennile/Meynell, Metcalf(e), Palliser, Robinson, Rutter, Shipley, Stow, Wilkinson

Maybe Ellton. Whereabouts in Oxon? I've found Ellton as a mispelling of my surname quite often
Berks / Oxon: Eltham, Annetts, Wiltshire (surname not county), Hawkins, Pembroke, Partridge
Dorset / Hants: Derham, Stride, Purkiss, Sibley
Yorkshire: Pottage, Carr, Blackburn, Depledge
Sussex: Goodyer, Christopher, Trevatt
Lanark: Scott (soldier went to Jersey CI)
Jersey: Fowler, Huelin, Scott

I agree with Arthur. I had noticed that the other ns were formed in that way but couldn't work out the 3rd letter as it wasn't like the other ts*, so Ensor has my vote.

I also see Reputed.

John Elton married Mary Hawkins on 21 jan 1747 he was from Iver and she was from Langley. A little way from Bicester though

This couple had a John bapt in Iver on 22 Apr 1749. But he might not have been a baby when baptised

added
Looks like this John died later the same year.
So this isn't the one.

Please ignore, got confused with another thread.

I realise this marriage must be post 1837 - been a long day!
