Who was William Kinsella's wife? (Stoke on Trent)
« on: Friday 27 August 21 19:58 BST (UK) »
I'm trying to get my head around this without forking out for a cert if poss.

William Kinsella married Edith Emily Male in Stoke on Trent in 1932. In the 1939 reg, they're with their son James (b 1927) and daughter M (b 1932, after the wedding) in Stoke.

Although William and Edith weren't married, James's birth seems only to have been registered once, as Kinsella, mmn Male.

However M's birth was registered with mmn Sealley. And there's another Kinsella/Sealley birth (William C) in Stoke in 1925.

So I thought that maybe Edith wasn't free to marry until 1932. But I can't find any trace of her before these births. According to the 1939 register and death reg, she was born (but under what name I don't know) on 13 April 1892. I can't find any Edith Emily XXX born in that quarter with a soundalike name. Neither can I find any hopeful looking Sealley/Male marriages before she married William.

Trees on Ancestry suggest she was born in Guernsey as Sealley. But they also have her marrying as William in Kent in 1920, when that marraige was between an Edith Emily Seal and William George. So I'm not sure I can put too much credence on that.

Can anyone help?

Annie, there is a death for an Edith Emily George, b. 1 Nov 1901, who died in Dartford area 1977. Kent as you have seen is where this marriage mentioned to a William George took place in 1920.  There is a corresponding birth for an Edith Emily Sealing in Malling Kent in 4th Qrt 1901.

So, looks like no likely connection to Edith Emily Male.

I'm intrigued by the fact that there is a closed record above James in the 1939 register.  This person would be number 3 in the schedule.

Any idea who this may be?  The fact that this is above James would possibly suggest a family member.  As far as I'm aware family get listed first then others in the household.

James seems to have had an older brother William -- maybe it was him?

I've just found two burials for Edith Emily Male nee Sealey in ST Peter Port, Guernsey.
One was the mother of Albert James Male; the other, was married to Augustus Francis Male and was the mother of Henry CHarles Male.

I can't see the DOD for either of these. Obviously they are not "my" Emily Edith, but the surname coincidence is too marked to be ignorable.

How can this fit together?

So it probably is William on the 1939 census.
