WWI Pension Index Card
« on: Saturday 28 August 21 19:31 BST (UK) »
Hi, I have a teeny tiny breakthrough on one of my longest standing challenges.
Stanley Charles SCALES b.1899
I've found a Pension index card
https://www.fold3.com/image/703688956?xid=1022&_ga=2.224023903.537929968.1630158712-1607998928.1629376912
I'm not sure of the abbreviation after "issued by..." or the 3 characters that appear under his surname.

ASC = Army Service Corps?   Does that fit with what you know about him?

Oh! That makes sense, thank you.
Nothing fits with what I know as until I found this today I had zero inkling that he had served in the army at all.
This man has been a complete conundrum past 1911 other than his marriage in 1922 and grandma's birth in Jan 1923 (after which he "disappeared").

Could the first image be "issued by D.O.W."?

Perhaps "Department of War" if that's what it was called at the time.
Anything in Hethersett, Norfolk
Buckenham and Variants in Norfolk and Suffolk.
Goodlad in Suffolk.
Palmer in Birmingham

It could be, Sunnylew.
I'm not convinced the first letter is D though. I do agree the other 2 appear to be O.W.

I think it was called the War Office.
