James Lincoln - Never married or had Children?..
« on: Monday 30 August 21 22:29 BST (UK) »
Hi Everyone
I am fairly new to researching family history so I am hoping people can.confirm what I believe to be correct,
that James Lincoln born  in 1847 in purleigh, Essex  to Joseph and Mary Lincoln and who died aged 35 in 1882 did not ever marry or have children.

Is someone else could kindly check and confirm this, I would be so grateful.

Did you get the death certificate? Who was the informant?

Hi
That doesn't sound too pleasant. It doesn't look as though James married, nothing showed up in Essex that I can recall.
If someone finds one, then I am sure they will let you know!

Thanks jonw65.
Feeling very connected to my Lincoln family. They all seem to have had a tough life. Sad that James never married or had kids if that is the case, which seems likely.

Hopefully somebody will be able to confirm this for me as I am not confident yet in my research skills.
Thank you again.

I think you can rest assured that he didn't marry.  He was still single in 1871 living in Purleigh, Essex.

The fact that his sister registered his death very much suggests that he was still single.  Did he die at home and if so what was the address?

In theory he should be on the 1881 census but doesn't seem to appear on there.

He died in Stow Maries
https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=852232.0

One oddity in the 1881 census was a William Lincoln in Woodham Ferrers. Age 34, married, occupation Horseman, born Purleigh. Lodging on a farm.
That is the only appearance of a William Lincoln of that sort of age in Essex.

Also in Woodham in 1881, William Lincoln, 46, Ag Lab, born Purleigh. Married to Elizabeth.
William brother of James?
Was he recorded twice with age wrong on one entry?

Going back to 1871, Woodham Ferrers
William Lincoln, lodger, 33, Labourer, born Purleigh

Whilst in Stow Maries in 1871 at the Wheatsheaf Inn
William Lincoln, lodger, 33, Labourer, born Purleigh
(ancestry say 32)

So in 1871 he does seem to have been enumerated twice. There seems to be only the one William from Purleigh.

That looks interesting Jon, can you supply the census refs as I can't come up with a William in 1871 using your info.

Hi GG
In 1871 in Woodham Ferrers (Ferris)
Piece 1660 folio 50 page 17

And in Stow Maries
Piece 1673 folio 72 page 2

Very close to each other, but in different registration districts.
Can't give links to FamilySearch, there still seem to be problems with their 1871 census.
