Hi Ian, you've hit the nail on the head. I was struggling to decipher what the occupation of Jens father was. I could make out "Blikken" but not the rest. on John's death certificate it lists his father as a tinsmith, and John was a coach painter with my great, great Grandfather. This info has proved that it's the right person I've been looking for. you have made my day!!(Years actually!! ;D)

Adolph andreas Holm. spouse, parents and siblings?
« Reply #12 on: Thursday 02 September 21 08:58 BST (UK) »
Hi , after an exhausting day of trawling through a million Danish records (it felt like it.) I found Adolph andreas Holm's birth date ( 28.5.1799 ?) and the names of his parents. His father is Niels hansen Holm and his mother is Marie Olsen??. I haven't been able to find any information on their births and deaths to properly link them together via a census, christening or whether he had siblings etc. Adolph's wife was called Maren jorgine lovise Thrane. They were married 17.7.1824. Maren has also proved elusive as to finding her birth and death records. I know that Adolph was listed as a widower in the 1840 census, so she must have died before then. Hopefully someone is a wizz at this minefield, because I think I've stepped on a few ??? Regard's Christian.

Use this site for Danish records. Some records have the original page:

Thanks so much for your help Ian. It's certainly a more relevant site to what I am looking for. It's interesting how the years of births change with each census, and names alter over time also. this is a habit still practised in my family now. (using middle names instead of first!) Just as an aside question, are there sites with information on ship migration from Denmark to Australia? From letters in my family and death certificates I have guessed that Theodor waldemar Holm and Jens otto Steen sailed out from Denmark? in 1853-1854. I believe that they arrived in Adelaide, South Australia as it was a free settlement colony. That's where Theodor met my great, great Grandmother Elizabeth Vickerman. Regards Christian. ;D
