John otto Steen Birth Records.

Hi, I am trying to find birth records for John otto Steen. He was born around 1831 in Elsinore Denmark and died in 1874 in Bendigo Australia. He was my great,great grandfather's best friend and they sailed out from Denmark to Australia together around 1854. They were in business together (Steen & Holm) as coach painters in Bendigo. John was never married, I believe his father was a tinsmith? , but I don't know his parents names. Which has made the searching process a bit difficult. Any help would be appreciated. Hhmm well it seems that acquiring his death certificate won't tell you who his parents were.  The mother and father details are marked as unknown, age 43 at death so 1831 birth year appears to be correct.

I can't see any newspaper article re his death.

I wonder if this is his birth details?  Christened in 1832.  See what you think.

The death date apparently is the interment date not the death date.  No photo unfortunately of the grave stone.

Girl Guide you beat me to it! Jens is the Danish form of John and Helsingør is the Danish form of Elsinore. If you're searching online it can help to use the local forms of the key terms.

Hi Girl guide and Manu, thanks for your help. I checked out Jens otto Steen and I think you may be on the right track (Because I certainly wasn't). John is the Anglicised word for Jens (if I said that right) I guess he changed it to make it easier to say in English?? I failed to mention in my first post, that John is buried with my great, great grandfather. (Theodor waldemar Holm.) But there was no headstone. I have been slowly collaborating the information I need about their lives , so that I can get a headstone made with their birth and death dates etc to give them the dignity they deserve. This has certainly been a big help in piecing the massive jigsaw together. Now to see how far back I can go with Theodors parents (who I know) and grandparents (who I don't) Best regards Christian.
