It would give a first name and occupation which may help. I realise it may not but you never know.
There seems to be no birth records in Ireland or England for Wallace Percy and Marie G. as Kennedy or Fenton.

I do not have Frank’s (Wallace Percy) wedding certificate at this time. Maybe the next step, but he must have been a Kennedy. I can find no marriage between a Fenton and Kennedy anywhere.

The only Kennedy-Fenton marriages I could find were in Scotland:
1861 Leith William Kennedy & Emaly? Fenton
1871 Fife John George Kennedy & Christina Rogers Fenton
(Family Search)
They may have married abroad.

3 Kennedy birth registrations or baptisms with first or middle name Wallace.
1876 Pancras birth: Francis Wallace Kennedy
1879 Ashton-under-Lyne baptism: Albert Victor Wallace Kennedy. Possibly the birth registration in Oldham: Albert Victor Kennedy; mother's maiden surname on Lancs. BMD index is Kennedy.
1880 Camberwell, London birth: Wallace Kennedy
GRO website was misbehaving and eventually I got an error message.

Hi All
Happy New Year

Can someone please advise me if the meaning of the word FILIUS in the info below, is SON OF or ILLEGITIMATE

Baptism: 3 May 1885 St Mary, Bacup, Lancashire, England
Joannes Fenton Sutcliffe - filius Joannis Fenton [sic] & Etta (Etty) (formerly Fenton)
    Born: 23 Feb 1885
    Godparents: Michael Hynes; Maria Hynes
    Baptised by: J. Lane
    Register: Baptisms 1877 - 1898
    Source: Original Register

I am still trying to find details on the ETTY KENNEDY who married JOHN SUTCLIFFE on 26th Jan 1885 at Haslingden Register Office. I have the marriage cert and the details are as follows.

JOHN SUTCLIFFE AGE 42 BATCHELOR SOLICITOR of Market St, Bacup, Lancs. Father RICHARD SUTCLIFFE. CALICO PRINTER.

ETTY KENNEDY AGE 30 WIDOW DRAPER of Market St, Bacup, Lancs. Father JOHN FENTON Deceased
CIVIL ENGINEER.

I can find no trace of a JOHN FENTON Civil Engineer

Thanks

Thanks heywood

I’m finding it difficult to understand how a JOHN FENTON SUTCLIFFE was baptised with a father called JOHN FENTON, when ETTY’S father was also JOHN FENTON and ETTY’S previous surname was KENNEDY
Any advise gratefully accepted

It would seem to be an error.
The transcriber has indicated that it is odd but the dates for marriage and birth are in the right order  :)
I looked at the transcriptions of the parish records for ‘Joannes’ (you have to put at least one name in) for the same year and they are all regular.

ETTY KENNEDY AGE 30 WIDOW DRAPER of Market St, Bacup, Lancs. Father JOHN FENTON Deceased
CIVIL ENGINEER.

I can find no trace of a JOHN FENTON Civil Engineer

Check out John Fenton Mayo/Sligo in link to Tithe Applotment books, Maggsie reply #4 on 1st page of this thread. He was Commissioner for parish of Kilturra. His name, signature and sworn declaration are on first page of the book. Place Dromal West, County Sligo (?) also written. Unsure of spelling.

Kilturra on map on GENUKI:
Kilturra (Sligo portion)
https://www.genuki.org.uk/big/irl/SLI/Kilturra
Kilturra (Mayo portion)
https://www.genuki.org.uk/big/irl/MAY/Kilturra
Go to full screen, jiggle about, adjust size. Swinford town is NW of Knock Airport on map. Knock Airport is S. of Kilturra.

Occupation of civil engineer might fit with a public appointment assessing land. Joe Biden's Mayo ancestor was employed helping Royal Engineers Regiment mapping the county, and also in surveying for Griffiths' Valuation.
A civil engineer may have moved around and worked abroad. If it's the correct John Fenton, his home base may have been on Mayo/Sligo border but his daughter may have been born elsewhere. His wife may have accompanied him on postings or she may have gone to stay with relatives.

I wonder if Etty had a draper's shop in Market Street or just worked in one. Bacup apparently has one of the best preserved Victorian town centres in Lancashire.
