Location of Green Street and Lincoln Street - Liverpool
« on: Friday 03 September 21 18:21 BST (UK) »
Hello, I'm trying to work out where Lincoln Street and Green Street were in the Scotland ward/St Martin district of Liverpool, in the 1860s.

Green Street

Green Street still exists, running between Vauxhall Road and Limekiln Lane. Above is Hornby Walk (showing where Hornby Street was) and below is Burlington Street. What I find confusing is that Green Street is called Portland Street on 1890 and 1906 maps, but both streets appear on the 1871 census, one following the other on the enumeration schedule. Was Green Street partially renamed for a period?

Lincoln Street

This street was in the same area - in the registration subdistrict of St Martin. I have no idea where it was and can't find any information about it.

Thank you for any help!
Thorpe, Feak & Townsend (Norfolk) / Ormandy & Slater (Dalton-in-Furness) / Corner (Liverpool) / Wray (Lincolnshire) / Fidler, Bridge & Turner (Derbyshire)

In the 1861 on the Description of Enumeration District which includes Lincoln St, Scotland Ward:

"That part comprising the north side of Athol Street from Railway Arches, to Great Howard Street, including Walmsley Street, Paget Street, that part of the north side of Athol Street and Darwen Street, that part of the north side of Athol Street, Shadwell Street and Lincoln Street."

Athol Street can be seen on this 1851 map, however the smaller streets are not named.

(between "EVERTON WARD" and "SCOTLAND WARD")

A bit further West I think. Paget St is between Great Howard St and the Leeds Liverpool canal, about 2/3 between, if that makes sense, so I assume Lincoln St must have been close to Paget St.

Green Street was between Portland Street and Hornby Street.

This snip of Vauxhall Road is from Gore's 1860.
