At least for me getting down on my knees was the hard bit. A torch or even on light from a mobile phone works just as well and it's a lot easier to carry.

It appears people do also use LED torches, but they need to be high powered to compete with the sunlight, 2000 lumens+, and it seems it would probably only work well for an inscription that is in the shade.
