James CHILD possibly Navy, left forces 1819, based Bristol?

Searching for evidence of a JAMES CHILD (name definite).
Born possibly 1780s, country of origin unknown.

Possibly sailor/mariner, may have married in Devon UK near to Naval base (to a local lass?)...

Left the Navy circa 1819?, received forces pension??, and for some years afterwards based himself in Bristol UK as a 'servant'.

Does anyone have a subscription to see Find my Past records?
I particularly need the Bristol connection...

That's a definite possibility...

This family had a son in 1813 who wasn't baptised till spring 1819, Bristol (the actual birth date is given in the register) - so there was a 6-year delay for some important reason: out of the UK and waiting till they were back? [If so, where were they, for those 6 years?] And then they had a further son in 1820, baptised same Bristol church.

I need a Bristol connection for the James CHILD, before these baptisms in 1819/1820, which is why I'm hoping for Navy records + naval pension...

Can you see an earlier death for a James CHILD (anywhere) about 1821? (testing a theory!)

There were no more children, and there's a possible Bristol 2nd marriage for the spouse/widow.

Had a look on Findmypast. There was a James Child on Ship's Muster between 1815 & 1817 on either HMS Netley, Sauk, Surprize & Tecumseh which were in Canada on Lake Huron. There is also service & pension records for 1819 but also for 1825. I don't have a subscription at present to look them up.

That's promising.

The marriage you found, Devon 1809, looks like the right one :-) [Child + Go(u)ld].
That would mean that James CHILD's wife Alice remarried in April 1821 (to William Eamer/Amer/Amur) and had more children in Bristol using her maiden name GOULD as their middle name. Great!

This suggests that James CHILD died 1820...if so, where?  Hoping to find his age at death and therefore year of birth.
I'll chase this up first, before paying for a subscription to FindMyPast... (funds are precious)

You've found a James Child, navy + 1819... I'll take a chance on this, and report back.
