What is the earliest definite trace you have of Henry?
Have you found him on a census?
Do you have the marriage record (the certificate should name a father)

Allowing a two year date range GRO shows nine Henry PENFOLDs born between 1877 and 1881 (two in 1879, one in Kent, one in Surrey).  Without further information I can't tell which of these is your man.

Henry's father is also called Henry and is a Licenced Hawker - details from marriage register entry.

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

In that case, I think it more sensible to post on the other thread which seems to suggest that Henry was born in 1872, not 1879.
