Wrexham place name
« on: Sunday 08 August 04 19:35 BST (UK) »
Can anyone with local knowledge help me find an area of Gourton, as described in the attachment below. the date is April 1846.
Is it a place name, or a house name?
Help as always much appreciated.

Hi Gwerninion

Having lived in Wrexham all my life I have never heard of Gourton!! saying that I have no idea what the street names are in the town centre, but I know the shops on them!!!!  ::). As far as I have worked out after putting the national grid reference (sj3751) into streetmap, it is just past Wrexham to the East and it used to be in the parish of Rhosddu in 1886. It is close to a Llan y pwll, and as I recall the name above gourton was a Glan y pwll on the certificate, so it could have changed it's name?? Do you know whether the person lived on a farm as there is alot of open land down that way with farms. I think Gourton is a place name and not the address, although it's not on any map! ???

Hope this helps, there doesn't seem to be much information on the internet!

Good luck

Rin  :)
