Scotlands People is the best site to use for original records rather than copying information from family tree's . I see by the death for James both parents were deceased just as we thought ..You can try www.familysearch.org/wiki/en/New monkland to see what information is there

In the 1841 Census (Abercorn) from SP, some of the mystery I believe has unfolded.

With James/Eliza and the rest, there is Thomas Weir age 50 E (for England), no occupation and Eliza Weir age 50 E (for England) plus a Janet age 15.  So...it seems Janet which is listed as a sister in 1851 was correct she was James wife's sister.  This leads me to believe Thomas Weir died before the 1851 and since James was supporting her and his MIL they called her Janet Burdon.

So now you want Janet Weir born Glasgow; and Thomas Weir who died in Scotland between 1841-1851 which is pretty difficult to do.  I searched SP for her birth no luck.

Btw DB...did you find James/Margaret Drummond in the 1841 Census from SP?

Don

Just checked the death for Janet Burdon .1881 Colin mentioned and it is the sister of James Burdon
Father James Burdon woolen manufacturer
Mother Janet McCulloch
So looks like James Burdon remarried or information given at the time was wrong
D Burdon send me P M if you want a copy of the death

Thanks Don, Colin and Rosie.

I really appreciate the info you have provided. It's all getting a bit confusing now :). I never thought of the fact that Maybe James remarried, which might align with the fact that Janet was 10 or 11 years younger than James Jnr.

I will PM you now Rosie.

Thanks again all. I will try to make sense of this all over the weekend.

1841 Abercorn, West Lothian. On Freereg Plus 5 others
BURDON   James   25   Schoolmaster   OUC
BURDON   Eliza      20              ENG
BURDON   James   2      WLN
BURDON   Thomas   10m      WLN
WEIR   Thomas   55      OUC
WEIR   Mary      50      ENG
WEIR   Janet   15      ENG

I must admit I had seen that census but missed Janet, the only thing is later census returns always state born Glasgow or Lanarks. Very confusing.

I have looked for a birth in England & Scotland without success, it was the same when I looked for Eliza.
