In 1871 he was stationed at Cawnpore.
In 1861 he was stationed in Jamaica.

Yes, its really seems to be him except for the dates because when he enlisted in 1854 it says he's only 16. If he married in 1853 then he would have only been 15. I will keep looking. Find my past has all the info.

I have his marriage in Scotlandspeople and it’s only one line saying that they lived in the parish.
That would be brilliant if he’s my line.

Further information on this..
Family search has five children for John and Agnes…
Agnes b 1869
James Paul b 1870 in Allahabad
Annie b 1871 in Cawnpore
William b 1873 in Cawnpore
Maude Adelaide b 1876 in Madras.
Can anyone help confirm these details?
Any help is much appreciated.

Maude Adelaide is from a different family, her father sub inspector of something.

The other baptisms are your family as given in earlier posts. Agnes died at 5 months.

Do you know if it was common that wife’s went to India? He must have been around 38/40 when his two children were born. Do you have any information about his regiment or where I can find out?

yes it was quite usual for wives to follow their husbands.....my nan went with my grandpop to india in fact they met there she had gone out to India as a childs nursemaid  he was in Lancers  they had 3 children 1 born in India 1 in Palestine and my dad in England.
