Shankill Burial Records - Belfast NI
« on: Sunday 12 September 21 01:17 BST (UK) »
Hi guys,

I’m just wondering if there is an online resource for the Shankill Road Cemetery, Belfast, NI? I can search the council records but Shankill doesn’t come up. I’m searching for my Great, Great Grandfather John Carlisle who died September 1897. Any advice would be greatly received 🙂

If you check under ANTRIM RESOURCES board there are many links to resources (unfortunately many are now broken & I am not able to make changes). Shankill listed here-

Which takes you to this page-

Using Google "shankill graveyard belfast records" comes up with another site with slightly different details- http://www.cambraistreet.co.uk/
Also- https://www.findagrave.com/cemetery/2192387/shankill-graveyard (nothing under Carlisle)
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Edited to say, I see aghadowey has already kindly provided a link to the undernoted details. Will leave them here anyhow, as some folks don't like clicking on links :

Gravestone Inscriptions, Belfast Volume 1 covers Shankill Graveyard.

Can only see Carlile/Carlisle entries listed.

The Carlile one is from 1700s.

Then:

Quote
.    CARLISLE
Burying place of John Carlisle, Malone, 1855

and

Quote
CARLISLE
Erected by David Carlisle in memory of his father John Carlisle. Also two of his sisters, Mary and Margaret. Also his mother Ellen Morrison Carlisle.
there are no dates.

Last burials apparently 1934.

Above taken from my copy of the book
"Trees without roots fall over!"

""People who never look backward to their ancestors will never look forward to posterity." - Edmund Burke

Thanks so much guys - I did stumble upon the camberia street site after I posted last night and found what I was looking for 😃 I’m wondering if the other Carlisles from the inscription book are relatives as I think there was a family plot so I’ll investigate that further.

Many thanks for the help it’s definitely pushed my search further ☺️
