Is that a chain attached to the top of the pendant? If so, does it have a clasp like a neck chain? (it doesn’t look very long in that photo)

 it is just a base metal i think , there are no marks on the back it must have hung on something as there is the small chain on it,

here is a St Johns ambulance medal issued to my dad. I think in the 1950's, not sure if it helps but the cross in the centre is very similar

 yes the cross does look the same doesnt it,
i just cant seem to find anything the same as what i have got it is really strange

It does look like a Mason order of the Knights Templar Cross or medallion.

the funny thing is my uncle was in the mason's back in the 1950s
but no one in the family seem to think it was his
all very strange but it is fun trying to find out
