please can anyone help with identifying the uniform in this photo, thanks.

We think it may have been sent from the US to UK.
Trying to work out who it might be in the family.

US army infantry (officer? - but no badges of rank are apparent) circa 1890, the number above the crossed muskets is the regiment, the letter below is the company.
