Gordon Highlander service record ??
« on: Monday 13 September 21 10:49 BST (UK) »
I am trying unsuccessfully to find a service record of J McKay 3146 Gordon highlanders.
I have found medal/clasp details of India and South Africa as well as newspaper cuttings of his wounds in 1900, However , no service record, can anyone with better knowledge point me in the right direction please.
Thank you

His records appear not to have survived, many of them have not. My own grandfather’s have not, I have had to piece things together, as well as I can, from accounts of his unit in the Boer War.

If you can give his approximate date and place of birth, someone bay have more success.

Thanks for the replies guys, I have found medal and clasp records and a transcript on FindMyPast, this states that he was wounded in 1900, I'm not sure where this info came from, I thought a service record???
I checked FindMyPast newspapers and have found cuttings confirming the wounding. Apart from that I am not even sure of his first name. I will contact the Gordons as suggested and see if they have any further info on Pte. J McKay.
If i get any success I will update the thread.
Thanks again

You probably saw that he was time expired (and therefore presumably discharged) by November 1902. It would fit with attestation circa 1889/90.
