Early 1600s Administration
« on: Monday 13 September 21 16:07 BST (UK) »
Back with another difficult to read Pyke document! It's the administration of the estate of Henry Pyke (1636):

https://www.ancestry.co.uk/imageviewer/collections/61333/images/47285_263021009496_10973-00007?pId=94727

What I've got so far:

The discharges:
- The funeral charges... in the whole... or there about
- ... unto Stephen Hyde upon bond
- ... unto Symon Pike
- ... to ?????? Pike... debt (?) of...
- (no idea what this says)
- ... Maurice (?) ?????? in debt (?) of
- the (no idea what comes after this)

I am trying my best but I am still a beginner and would be grateful if someone could fill in the blanks. Stephen Hyde is a kinsman of some sort, Symon is his son but I don't know what the other Pike name could be. Henry's sons were Thomas, Symon, Thorpe, John (deceased) but it doesn't look like any of them.

Also, I have never seen a discharges list before. Does it just mean amounts that were owed to various people and then deducted from the inventory total?

Thanks so much!

Yes, but also discharging the costs of the funeral and proving the will.  Also, look up heriot if it's not familiar to you.
