Arthur James Scott medals found
« on: Tuesday 14 September 21 11:01 BST (UK) »
Hi,
Was not sure where to put this but on BBC site today a collection of 6 medals in a box WW2 which were found on Ramsdale Park golf course in Nottingham belonging to Arthur James Scott (Royal Navy) from Brigg Lincolnshire a few years ago the finders have tried to find the owners but no joy. They have tried the MoD / Royal British legion and medal specialists so I wondered if any Roots-chatters could help them.

The below is pure speculation.....

Possible birth?

SCOTT, ARTHUR  JAMES     COOPER
GRO Reference: 1908  J Quarter in NOTTINGHAM  Volume 07B  Page 439

Possible death?

Deaths Dec 1958
SCOTT    Arthur J    50    Nottingham    3c   413

I appreciate that the birth has no link to Brigg in Lincs but the death is Nottingham where the medals were found.

I can't see any likely looking Arthur on the 1939 Register, but if he joined the Navy before the Register was taken, he won't be on it.

I found a burial record for that 1958 death, it says:-

Arthur James Scott, 48 Darnhall Cres, Bilborough, Nottingham.  Died 14th December 1958, wife's name is Beatrice.

Using her name I found her in Nottingham on the 1939 Register with three children whose names are showing so they are presumably deceased.  One daughter and two sons.

Arthur would have been the right sort of age to have joined the Navy being around 30 years of age.

The fact that it says Brigg on that piece of paper doesn't  mean he was born there. It could have some other meaning to whoever wrote it.

Oh yes I appreciate that Brigg could be a red herring as it were.  The daughter died in 2002 and appears to have had two children.

I don't know if there may be any newspaper report of Arthur's death in 1958 which might mention any war service.

Hopefully if there are any family in the Nottingham area they will see the online report.

Nottingham being a city still has a daily evening paper which didn't do many obits, unless there were someone important.
