Ancestry trying to link me to other trees
« on: Wednesday 15 September 21 09:44 BST (UK) »
I have a very small portion of my tree on Ancestry. It is private and I have only ever invited one person (who lives in Australia) to view it as a guest. Yesterday, I received an email from ancestry linking me to a tree (that has nothing to do with the portion that I have posted as private), the user lives in BC, Canada. The family name and origins in my private tree do not match up whatsoever with the tree that Ancestry is trying to link me to. What is Ancestry trying to do these days?

Are you sure they've linked your tree. My understanding is that they suggest and ask if you want to include people from other trees.

What exactly does the e-mail say?

Check the years you have in your Private tree and the ones that are linked to BC.
If they are the same it's a clash.
It happens.
I have had this loads of time in all different site.

I only have this about trees  that I've been invited to look at as a guest or whatever. Never to my tree.
It's just to tell you about them. I ignore them. They have never added anything to my tree.

Check your tree to see if they have been added to it.

Hi Maggsie,

The name quoted in the Ancestry email, William John Pratt, means nothing to me. I do have a few 'prats' amongst my nearest and dearest but no PRATT family.

Ok, The invited person is adding to their tree, not your tree.

In the email, it says:

'See what's new in your family tree.'
'View your tree'

When I click on 'View your tree' (which, as the email was addressed to me, I took as being an invitation to view my own private tree on Ancestry), the link takes me to ''Our family tree New 2017 family tree Robinson_Hindson_Crack_Broster_Tully is growing''

I think that I will remove my private tree from Ancestry.
