Women's Legion uniform??????
« on: Friday 17 September 21 20:36 BST (UK) »
Wonder if any of you clever Rootschatters can identify this uniform?

Being worn by my great aunt, Daisy.

Daisy was born in 1890, and until now I had no idea that she had served in any of the services.  Some very brief correspondence in the same folder as this picture refers to the Women's Legion - an organisation I'd never heard of before, but involved up to 40,000 woman taking on roles in WWI, many cooking and driving.

So I wonder if the uniform is Women's Legion?

opinions please!

thanks

The Women's Legion was started in 1915 by the Marchioness of Londonderry. They wore military style uniforms.

Google 'Women's Legion" for more information.

Did she later reside in Surrey? Odd question, I know. But there was a lady named Daisy connected to the British Legion living near Farnham during the 1940s.

Thankyou medpat, nanny jan and Hillhurst.

Really surprised at the id of WRAF uniform - never had any mention of or reference to this in our family.

No mention of Daisy (Daisy Fitzhardinge Weaving) in the WRAF records that I've found online.

Regret no links to Surrey that I know of, nor to British Legion, which isn't quite the same at the Women's Legion.

thanks for your interest.
