You can look at the original GRO pages for the December qtr 1837 under both surnames MacKenzie/McKenzie on freebmd.  There is only the one entry for a John which would suggest that it is likely to be the burial that Daisy found.

 Your John  Mckenzie, - Is there a particular reason why you think he died 1837

If as you say, you are looking for a John  Mckenzie born/baptised 60 to 80 year before 1837 = born between 1757 and 1777 give or take a year or two.

There is a burial (not GRO Death or Reg district Pontefract) and could have been on the 1841 census
